Who are you and what do you do?
I am an incognito yarn bomber. [Ed: Yarn Bombing on Wikipedia.]
How long have you been in the Richmond area?
I lived here almost a decade before moving to NYC for 5 years. I returned to Richmond a few years ago.
Why is Richmond a good place for you to create/innovate?
Richmond is a quirky and conservative city which makes it fun for me to leave unexpected spots of whimsy around. I am a fan of both street art and Richmond, so yarn bombing is my way of adding to both those things.
What advice would you give others looking to get involved in what you do?
I have heard from many people — knitters and non-knitters alike — who tell me they wish that they could yarn bomb, too. I always encourage them to do it. If there is a location or object that you think would benefit from some yarny cheer, make it so. And if you don’t know how to knit but would like to, take a class! It’s not as difficult as you may think and it’s loads of fun.
What’s coming up for you that has you excited?
I put up one yarn bomb a month around Richmond, so I’m always looking forward to picking out the next spot and planning what to make for it. Keep an eye out — you never know where I’ll strike next!
